2. Substance Abuse Resources in Arizona
Drug and alcohol use and abuse have continually risen throughout Arizona, leading to more individuals using and potentially becoming dependent on harmful substances. During the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been more than a 30% increase in drug overdoses from substance abuse of fentanyl, methamphetamines, alcohol, and tranquilizer drugs such as Xanax. And as adolescents have been using addictive and dangerous substances more frequently, there is a greater need to provide preventative measures to decrease substance abuse and improve access to a clean, substance-free lifestyle. Using substances can have detrimental effects on an individual’s physical and mental health and can also cause adverse effects on their loved ones and community. Seeking care and treatment for substance abuse can be difficult, but plenty of people and resources are available to help.
There are many organizations that offer a variety of sources to guide on the road to recovery. Phone hotlines are a convenient treatment option, as they provide direct assistance and guide individuals to their next steps. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration offers a free, discreet hotline (1-800-662-4357) that is available 24/7 for both English and Spanish speakers and provides referrals and information services to help find treatment options. Other treatment facilities that aid in rehabilitation can be found through the Find Treatment locator, which provides options for insured, uninsured, and underinsured individuals. More beneficial and county-specific resources can be found through the Arizona Substance Abuse Prevention Hub.
